King Con! [Nov. 5th, 2009|12:10 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

This Sunday, November 8, I'll be appearing on a panel at King Con, at the Lyceum in Brooklyn! Here is the info:

KIDS' COMICS: SUNDAY 11AM-11:50AM

Remember that old cliche, "comics aren’t just for kids anymore?" In the era of grownup graphic novels and gritty anti-heroes, are comics for kids at all anymore? Join a new generation of cartoonists creating work with a youth-centric focus as they discuss the past, present, and future of comics for kids. Moderated by Brian Heater, the panel will feature Matt Loux, Raina Telgemeier, Dave Roman, Sara Varon, and more!

I'm not sure exactly where in the building the panel will be located, but it should be clear when you arrive. I won't have a table, but I might have a few galleys of SMILE in my backpack. If you're a librarian, educator, or journalist, come see me after the panel and I'll hook you up!

Oh, September. You are one busy month. [Sep. 2nd, 2009|03:33 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]

Upcoming events!

Sunday, September 13, I will be at the The Brooklyn Book Festival! This will be my first time attending the BBF, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. It's a huge, free event taking over much of downtown Brooklyn. You can find me at the Youth Stoop in Borough Hall Plaza--the Youth Stoop provides day-long literary activities for youth ages 10-18. This is the panel I'm speaking on:

3:00 p.m. Love, War and Adventures in Babysitting…Transforming Stories into Comics. How does a comic artist take a favorite story and make it new? Three new stars in the literary comics cosmos shine the light on their process, adapting award-winning fiction, found historical materials and one of the most popular teen series of all time into graphic novels. Raina Telgemeier (The Baby-sitters Club graphic novel series), Danica Novgorodoff (Refresh, Refresh) and George O’Connor (Journey into Mohawk Country).

Immediately after, I'll be signing copies of BSC and X-Men: Misfits!

---

The following weekend, September 19 and 20, Dave and I will be heading up to Bangor, Maine as special guests of the BangPop! Comic Book & Pop Culture Convention, at the Bangor Civic Center. The programming isn't completely current on the site yet, but we'll be giving one panel for educators and librarians, and another for kids! I'll post an update with specific information when I have it. Note that current full-time educators and librarians will receive free admission to BangPop! with current school ID. I've never been to Maine before, so I'm pretty excited about this trip.

---

And then the last weekend in September, look for the entire Comics Bakery at one of our favorite conventions: the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, MD! I'll have a new issue of Outreach available, and Dave and I will have plenty of copies of X-Men on hand. I'll also have an assortment of original art, SMILE postcards, keychains, mini-comics, and other goodies as you have come to expect. If anyone wants to request that I bring a specific BSC original page, or something else, you can leave a comment here or email me.

Well, let's see. What can be said about this year's MoCCA Art Fest that hasn't already been said? Dave has a report from our shared vantage point; Heidi has a good general summary up at The Beat, and Even Dorkin lays it all out on the table with little apology. As for me, I was hot and miserable and tired all weekend. I usually do my best to put a positive spin on things, and since MoCCA is pretty much my favorite convention, I am even more willing to overlook the kinks in favor of celebrating what I love most about the comics scene...but this year, all I remember is being too hot.

I'm sorry if that sounds glum. But it was too hot.

Without getting too much into it, my thoughts for future MoCCAs are that I would be happy and willing to shell out extra for my table (oh, wait, they raised the prices, so I don't have a choice!) if the con is willing to spring for air conditioning at the new venue. If they're not, I hope they find another place to have it. The Armory had its own unique charm, and I love the neighborhood it's in and its proximity to the Shake Shack for long summer evenings of eating junk food with lots of my friends. But when my positive memories of the weekend have nothing to do with the con, and EVERYTHING to do with what took place before and after the convention, something is awry. Sad face!

I realize I'm glossing over some pretty amazing little moments of awesome. That's really not fair. Here are some of the highlights from the weekend:

--Dave unveiled my belated birthday present at our Comics Bakery Roundtable panel, in front of a bunch of people. That deserves its own post, which I'll make shortly.

--We didn't have anything new to sell, but I had fun things to give away! Like my SMILE postcards! The cover for the book ALSO deserves its own post, I believe, so that will also come atcha in a bit. [EDIT: Here it is!!]

--The crazy overlap between my old life in the publishing world and my current life in the comics world. I used to work at Abrams' sister company, STC, and having some of my old co-workers exhibiting with Abrams is always a trip! They like to talk about how I was making little comics when I was an editorial assistant then...and how those became SMILE. And, yeah. Forward-march.

--We put Dave's Cybert doll on our table, and it was a fun conversation piece and even MORE fun to be able to say that the person who made the doll (Hi Megan!) was exhibiting just a few tables away! Here, Cybert meets Scott C.'s amazing Mummy puppet.

--My houseguests were lovely and it was wonderful to spend some time with them. In fact, all of my out-of-town friends are fantastic people who I see far too rarely. I know there were friends who I managed to wave drowsily at on my way to the bathroom and that was the extent of our interaction, but I blame the heat. Talking was hard, and standing was even harder.

And, of course, the hands-down highlight of the weekend was Drink and Draw Like a Lady!! Holy cow!! It was raining and windy and stupid out on Friday night, and the bar overbooked so we didn't have as much space as we needed, but my guesstimate is that we had somewhere between 70-80 awesome ladies show up for a killer night of fun! There were incredibly delicious cupcakes, there were drawing jams, there were introductions and interactions I was happy to see, there were drinks galore, and everyone I talked to had a good time.

Megan, Patricia, Hope, and Lucy!

My extra-special thanks to Hope, who brainstormed the whole thing, and the rest of the women in comics who are so amazingly rad. There is so much we can all learn from one another, and it's great to have an opportunity to bond now and then. From the sound of it, this will happen again. And you can bet I'll be there!

---

...That did come out pretty positive in the end, didn't it! Happy face!

Visual Overload Ahoy [Jun. 2nd, 2009|10:44 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]
[music |Magnificent Seven theme]

This weekend! Are you ready? Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7, it's the MoCCA Art Festival -- my VERY favorite comics show of the year!!

The convention moves to a new venue this year, the 69th Regiment Armory at Lexington Avenue and 25th Street in New York City (about a block away from my old SVA dorm!). It's $10 a day or $15 for a weekend pass. The event runs from 11-6 on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Comics Bakery will be set up at table number 513. It's right in the middle of the action! EDIT: Marion posted a picture of the floor map!

Now, for what I'll have with me at the show:

OUTREACH minicomics! I made a fresh batch of these guys for MoCCA; having only sold these at SPX in 2008, this will be the New York debut for this little book. $2 each.

Photobucket
Postcards with the cover for SMILE!! Here's a very pixelated sneak peak; you'll have to come find me to see the real thing. Free!

Photobucket
X-Men Misfits...keychains! The book itself won't actually be released until July, but come get a keychain to whet your appetite. Free!

--BSC Graphic Novels! Volumes 1 - 4. $9 each, or $30 for the whole set.

--Take-Out Minis! Yeah, I still have them! $1 each, or $5 for all 6.

--SMILE Minis! Soon to be a collector's item. The first 8 pages of the story...which have been drastically re-written and re-drawn for the graphic novel version. $1 each.

--Original Art! If there's a BSC page from any of the volumes you're specifically interested in, please let me know here in the comments, or via email. Otherwise, I'll have an assortment of pages available, varied prices.

In addition to the insanity listed above, we also have a panel on Saturday from noon - 12:50 pm!
Comics Bakery Roundtable: A discussion on the “benefits” of collaboration with two sets of comic-making couples, who combine to form a giant robot.

And don't forget--all ladies in town for the show are invited to the (free!) pre-party, Drink and Draw Like A Lady, at Madame X on Friday night from 7 - 10:

Photobucket

I set up a Facebook Page for the event, if you'd like to add your name to the guest list or invite more people. There will be professionally-baked cupcakes! Half of which will be vegan! Come share a free drink with your comics-making sisters and start the weekend off in fancy fashion.

Hope to see you at some, or all, of the festivities!

KCC at BCC [Apr. 24th, 2009|09:38 am]

Short notice: Tomorrow, I'll be at the Kids' Comic Con, in the Bronx!

The con takes place from 10 - 6 at Bronx Community College, and is free to anyone 17 or younger (over-17s, it's only $5 for you to get in). Look for the flyers around campus to lead you to the event!

I'll be on two panels:

Professional Workshop – Careers In Comics!
And I'm still trying to confirm the time on this one: it starts at either noon, or 1:00...I may not know until I get there!
Join professional writers, illustrators, editors, and designers as they share how they got started in their careers and how their jobs have changed over time. They’ll also offer tips for young people interested in breaking into comics. There will be plenty of time for Q&A with the audience. (Panelists: Colleen Venable (designer, First Second Books; and self-published artist); Raina Telgemeier (artist, The Baby-sitters Club graphic novels, and co-author of Del Rey's X-Men: Misfits and online comic SMILE); Peter Gutierrez (writer and educator specializing in media literacy); Jonathan Bresman (senior editor, Mad Magazine). Moderated by Janna Morishima (director, Diamond Kids Group)

2:00 PM – 2:45 PM: Youth Workshop D – Creating Comic Characters and Art With Style.
Dave Roman (Nickelodeon Magazine) and Raina Telgemeier (Baby-sitters Club) lead a drawing workshop that focuses on how the comics we grow up reading can affect how each of us draws. They'll help young artists break down drawings into basic shapes and use them to create fun new characters!

What I won't have this year is a table, which means I won't be selling books. But if anyone wants to bring books for me to sign, or sketchbooks for me to draw in, I'll happily do so.

Hope to see you there--it should be a great day!

SPXin' [Oct. 7th, 2008|12:30 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

The other thing I feel like posting about today is SPX.

Dave wrote a nice, complete post about our trip on his journal, which you can read for the details of what we did and when. He got a really severe allergy attack on Sunday, which basically put him out of commission the entire day, and meant that my head was not quite as in-the-game as it could have been, as I was worried about him. But aside from that, we really did manage to have a fun weekend, and I had a great con!

John Green had to stay home and work on an insane freelance deadline, which was sad, but we told everyone he was in Washington helping the financial bailout plan and had suspended his cartooning campaign for the time being.

Dave, Gina, Marion and I ended up going into DC on Friday night, because I had never been, it's a quick subway ride from Bethesda, and it seemed like the patriotic thing to do one month before the election. I really enjoyed it! We got a little lost and thought we were heading to the Lincoln Memorial, but it ended up being the Jefferson Memorial, and in the end we missed Lincoln but saw FDR, which was unexpected and really cool. I think we walked about 5 miles that night, all told, and crashed HARD when we got back to the hotel.

Then, the con. My new mini completely sold out, and I thank those of you who bought it and everyone who came by to comment on it. I guess it was a timely subject, and a lot of people could relate. I'll print up a new batch for the next con that comes around, so if you didn't get one, you'll have another chance.

The new BSC book also did really, really well. In fact, the BSC series in general seems to have found its audience, even among indie cartoonists. I always meet a lot of great kids at shows, and this year was no exception. In particular I met a pair of sisters named Eirene (which rhymes with Raina) and Amara (my own sister's name), who were bowled over by the fact that my next book is going to have a character named Amara in it!

The YA and Children's Comics panel Dave and I were on together was a lot of fun, and I could not have asked for better co-panelists than Hope, Frank, and Heidi.

Presenting at the Ignatzes was also a highlight for me--although I guess nobody could tell how NERVOUS I was while I was up at the podium!! I've gotten pretty used to public speaking, and talking to audiences and kids and pretty much anyone in a panel format, or giving a presentation, or a workshop, is easy now. But something about podiums...and having to read what I'm saying instead of winging it...just erodes my confidence. Luckily it was short! Still, I had fun being a part of it and getting to sit up front for the festivities, next to Jason Lutes who was very nice.

We didn't last long Saturday night. I spend a lot of time nowadays explaining to people that my stamina just does not exist, and that these weekends take everything I have out of me. The only way to make it through two days of conventioning is basically to sleep as many hours as I can in between standing at my table. I"m sorry if it makes me seem antisocial; everyone I meet is always so lovely. I'm quite grateful for the short conversations we are able to have!

Sunday's highlight was meeting Richard Thompson, who draws my new favorite comic strip, Cul De Sac. I also finally got a chance to chat with the amazing Laura Park, who is basically Claudia Kishi all grown up. In a good way. :)

We had to get outta town really quickly after the show, as Dave was pretty much dying. Whatever is in the trees in Maryland is some potent, potent poison. Our caravan stopped for dinner at Mimi's Cafe, just south of Baltimore, which we'd actually tried to eat at during our drive last year but it was still under construction then. It was better than eating at Denny's or Bob's Big Boy (there were 3 vegetarians among us), but Mimi's still suffers from the out-of-control portion problem that plagues American chain eateries. Next, we got stuck in traffic heading into Delaware, because they had to close 3 lanes of I-95 for no apparent reason. That slowed us down by at least an hour, but the conversation with Gina, Marion, and Jillian Tamaki (this year's new travel companion) was so entertaining that I almost didn't mind. Dave and I got to our house at 2:30 AM.

Yesterday was a recovery day. Slept late, turned on the heat, took a nap, nursed an upset stomach and a scratchy throat, ordered a pizza, noodled around with book cover designs. Today it's back to work, and here I am making my second LJ post of the day... :)

Oh! And our pictures are here.

Small Press Expo [Sep. 29th, 2008|11:39 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , ]

It's almost time...for SPX!!

Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th, you can find me and the Comics Bakery at the Marriott Bethesda North Conference Center, in lovely Bethesda, Maryland. We'll be stationed at Table G15-16, which happens to be right by the ballroom entrance. Same spot we had last year!

I'm thrilled to be debuting the fourth and final BSC graphic novel, Claudia and Mean Janine. In fact, it's even up for a "Best Debut" Ignatz Award! How about that!

I've also created a brand-new minicomic for the show. I know, it's been like 3 years since I made a minicomic, but I had some free time last week and got a full 12-page mini done! It's a snapshot of some of the things I've seen and heard while teaching kids about comics, and things people say during comic cons. They're $1 each, and I'm afraid I won't be selling them online or by mail for the time being...so if you want one, you'll have to find me at SPX or another show in the future!

I've got other stuff, too! I put together a few packs of hand-made Christmas cards; I have the full back catalog of BSC graphic novels, all of the Take-Outs, my SMILE minicomic, lots of original artwork, and t-shirts!

I will be on one panel: Children's and YA Comic Books, on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM. I'll be joined by my husband, Dave Roman, as well as my good friends Hope Larson and Frank Cammuso!

I can't wait. Hope to see you there!

MoCCA ChoCCA [Jun. 9th, 2008|05:40 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Location |right by the A/C]
[mood | drained]
[music |Maritime: Lights]

I hope a list-format rundown of the MoCCA weekend, sans-links, will suffice. I'm exhausted from the weekend and so is everyone else; but I prefer to write my thoughts down sooner than later!

--I really enjoyed having Rosemary, Zack and Steph as houseguests, although I wish I had seen more of them! It was a busy weekend and we didn't spent a lot of time at the house.

THURSDAY

--Dinner & dessert with Dirk and Rosemary in Astoria. Food + friends = happy!

FRIDAY

--I learned that Cori and Tyler had their baby Friday afternoon!!! What a great piece of news to begin the weekend on.

--Post-Bang's Lynda Barry event was the coolest panel discussion I've ever attended ever. Dave wasn't as familiar with her work as me, but he LOVED her panel and we both got all excited about comics again in that one evening.

--On Friday night I COULDN'T SLEEP. Not even for a few minutes. No reason I could really discern except I was excited about MoCCA; but heading into the show I was already pretty worn out. Apologies if I was less of myself as a result.

SATURDAY

--I pulled through, though. Adrenaline and caffeinated tea and seeing friends is a good pick-me-up.

--While we weren't selling them at our table, the Star Wars book was a huge hit and Shelli was sold out of all 50 she'd made by 3 PM!

--I bought a LOT of books this weekend! Sometimes I'm really bad about this, but mostly 'cause I'm stuck to my table and don't get to see the rest of the con much. This year I made a point to get lots of new books by friends and idols, although I missed a lot of other good stuff too.

--Uh, it was hot. You already know this.

--Stole away for a quiet dinner with Dave, but ended up running into Alisa and Allan at the restaurant. We had fun talking about exhibiting--it was their first time behind the table at MoCCA!

--Lulu Awards. The crowd was enthusiastic and the food was tasty and I was still awake. But right before the ceremony started, my body decided enough was enough and I got somewhat ill, which is not unusual for me, but it was bad timing. Missed the whole ceremony save for the last award. By the time we got home I was completely better, and we had a fun time talking with our houseguests about Disney mountains! Then I fell into bed and slept foreverrrrrr.

SUNDAY

--Breakfast with Hope and Lucy. A nice, relaxed hour of chatting was just the thing to start my day off right, and I got to the show early and in a great mood!

--Got to walk the floor a bit before the show, getting some more books and talking with friends. The quality of work on the tables is just outstanding these days and everyone keeps topping themselves.

--Sort of a slow day, probably attributed to the crazy heat of the weekend.

--Had Lynda Barry sign one of my old, dog-eared collections of her comics. She is such a treasure, I swear I just want to hang out with her forever. I gave her some of my minis and told her how much her work meant to me. That was when the fire alarm started going off.

--It's something different every year at MoCCA. 2008 will forever be the year the FDNY evacuated the Puck building during a 100-degree heatwave. Was it the boiler? Did a pile of mini-comics on the 7th floor go up in flames? Did Jason Shiga stage a coup? Who knows.

--The show was pretty quiet after all the shenanigans and we were all pretty faded. Everyone was pretty happy to pack it in, I think.

--Sunday dinner at Spring Street, as per tradition, with Rosemary M., Naseem, Kean, Marion, John, Dave, Rosemary T., Craig, Gina, Andy, Mike, Jeff, and Josh. GOOD times and delicious food and that pleasant feeling I always have after MoCCA. Usually our group is three times that size, but it was nice to relax with a small-ish group of friends.

--Home to Queens, where Dave and I promptly turned on the A/C and made a berry smoothie and caught up on cable news from the weekend. Then we slept like the dead.

MONDAY

--Hey, that's today! The heatwave continues in earnest. I have not left my house and that is just fine with me.

--The Canadians plus John and Marion came over for a bagel brunch, and we all sat around half-dead and melted eating delicious starch.

--EDITED TO ADD: We were counting our money this morning and discovered a counterfeit $1 bill. Anyone else find any funny money? And who counterfeits SINGLES, anyway?!

My head feels like it's in a cloud and I'm definitely not caught up on sleep yet. Tomorrow it's back to real life, and I have a lot of exciting work to do! Stay cool, everybody! Yay for MoCCA!

MoCCA: This weekend! [Jun. 3rd, 2008|04:24 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , ]
[music |The Muppets: Hey A Movie!]

Photobucket

It's time for my favorite comic convention of the year: the MoCCA Art Festival!

Saurday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8
The Puck Building: Houston and Lafayette Streets
New York, New York
11 AM - 6 PM both days
$10 a day or $15 for a weekend pass

Myself and the Comics Bakery will be set up at tables A7 and A8, the same spot we've been in for the past several years. We will have our usual crazy assortment of comics and art and baked goods! I'll have lots of BSC original pages for sale; if there is a specific page you're interested in buying, comment here or drop me an email, and I will bring it for you if it's still available!

Sadly, the 4th BSC graphic novel isn't out yet, but I'll have all of my other books. Dave and I created a new comic for a Star Wars-themed anthology, Harvest is When I Need You Most. I'll post a link to its website when I know the URL--it was put together by [info]shiru, and promises to be insanely cute.

As for the other events surrounding the Art Fest, they sound extremely promising!

Friday brings the first-ever Post-Bang at NYU, an all-day event tied to the MoCCA Art Fest, featuring lectures and seminars with some of the brightest stars in the graphic novel world. Attendance is FREE! I'll be going to at least a couple of the panels; culminating with a spotlight talk with Lynda Barry! One of my favorite cartoonists of ALL TIME.

Saturday night, I'll be at the Lulu Awards, Friends of Lulu's annual award ceremony honoring the great women in our industry. This is the first year the awards are being held in New York City and in conjunction with MoCCA, and it promises to be a great time. Come on out and support your favorite cartooning ladies!

In other news, it got HOT--and this weekend is supposed to be a real scorcher. Hopefully the A/C at the Puck Building won't break down again this year! Bring your freezer packs full of icy drinks, just in case!

Dave and I had a fan-tas-tic time at the Stumptown Comics Fest! We got home late last night, feeling green from the rain, full from yummy brunches, and elated from the wonderful convention.

Our photos of the con proper can be found in this Flickr set; we have plenty more photos from running all over Portland with our friends, but our computer is on the edge of insanity and won't let me upload the rest, so you'll have to wait to see those. Hopefully tomorrow!

Ramblings )

All in all, a great, great trip.

EXTRA-special thanks to Indigo Kelleigh and the entire organizing crew of Stumptown, for inviting us out, making us feel like rock stars, and generally being awesome and wonderful and terrific!

The New York Comic Con was awesome, and I'm pretty tired today and stuffed from a tasty brunch at the Roebling Tea Room (spiced Winter Peach tea! Mmmmm...). It was nice to see everyone I got to see this weekend, I ate a lot of great food, and I seem to have survived with my health mostly intact. There was a LOT of Avatar: TLA geekery, pleasant weather, and general positivity all around. Pictures later, perhaps?

We leave for Portland on Thursday evening!

The Life and Times. [Nov. 26th, 2007|02:25 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]

November in Astoria.

I spent most of the holiday weekend holed up in our living room, which is the warmest room in the house, inking and writing and scheming and decorating for the upcoming month. I also watched some classic Disney films, which seems appropriate for Thanksgiving weekend.

We're getting ready for the New York Anime Festival, December 7, 8, and 9 here in NYC. My upcoming secret project will be announced there, on the
following panel... )

Since I'm catching up with this post anyway, I'll also mention that I just found out that the latest BSC graphic novel to see print, Mary Anne Saves the Day, is up for a 2007 Cybil Award! Kristy's Great Idea was nominated last year, and made it into the finals round. What an amazing list this year; I'm incredibly flattered to be included among this batch of nominees.

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful comments about my new website! You are too kind. Apologies on my lack of replies, I have been frightfully busy this week. Yesterday alone I pencilled nine pages of BSC4. Nine pages. That's a personal record, and one I wouldn't recommend you ever try yourself. Soggy hand syndrome is in full effect, although I plan to get through at least 4 more pages today.

This weekend I'll be at SPX, and you should come find me at tables G15-G16 where myself and the rest of the Comics Bakery will be set up. I'm especially excited by the fact that Dave and John have another new issue of Teen Boat, and Dave will have a shiny new issue of Astronaut Elementary. Depending on when the last time you saw me was, I may or may not have new stuff. All 3 BSC graphic novels, check. Little paintings, check. Earthquake Weather minis, check...

I am speaking on one panel on Sunday at 11AM: Working with Mainstream Publishers
I'll be joined by Nick Abadzis and Ed Piskor. Should be good!

We're back from the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, one of the most fun shows we have ever done! It was a fantastic weekend, full of friends old and new, lovely architecture, great books and great art, tasty food, and hilarious shenaninigans.

All of our photos from TCAF are on Flickr, with a few choice selections and my con report after the jump. )

[music |Bishop Allen: Click Click Click Click]

It's the big TCAF post!

What: The Toronto Comic Arts Festival

Where: Old Victoria College
93 Charles St. W
Toronto, ON

When: Saturday, August 18: 10 AM - 7 PM
Sunday, August 19: 10 AM - 6 PM

Why: Admission is FREE, and TCAF is one of the coolest small press comics shows in North America!

Who: Me and the Comics Bakery crew: Dave, John, and Marion;
plus a whole pile of my comics-making friends from around the world.

I'll be splitting my time between two tables: Table #VC2FOY on the second floor of the Old Vic building; and the OWLKIDS Family Tent, outside in the quad next to the building. If you can't find me at one, I'm probably at the other. I will have BSC graphic novels, Take-Out minis, SMILE minis, original art, t-shirts, buttons, and more! The Flight crew will also be on hand selling Flight Anthologies, which I'm happy to sign. I'll be around to do drawings and sign books all weekend, so please come!

I'm most excited about officially debuting my BRAND-NEW BSC graphic novel, Mary Anne Saves the Day, at TCAF! Look!

I'll be on a panel on Sunday, August 19 at 3:00 PM:
Book Publishing IS Comics Publishing: New Literary Frontiers
Panelists: Hope Larson, Carla Speed McNeil, Kean Soo, and Raina Telgemeier.
Moderated by Scott Robins of Scholastic Canada.

Wow, what a crazy couple of weeks. I'll make my Comic Con post first, 'cause it's fresher in my mind.

News, photos, and ramblings after the jump.

Mind-blowingly accurate Animal Crossing Cosplay! After I took their picture, they gave me this. MAN.

Next up, our trip from San Francisco to LA to Orange County, Harry Potter Night, and my book signing!
